I Was Sweating by 10 a.m

Three Kids, One Mom

I want to tell you about my day.

It started promptly at 6:30 a.m., with all three kids needing something.

I’ve gotten really good at taking care of one baby at a time, like a little train system.

I don’t even think about it anymore. I just move.

My husband started his new job this week, so today was day two.

He steps into his office, and I’m on mama duty.

(Are we ever off mama duty?)

The kids are still sick, so I got the twins into bed with my daughter and me, and we turned on some cartoons.

We all went back to sleep until 9 a.m.

I know.

Can you even imagine?!

And then everyone wakes up, and it’s like an instant earthquake.

Everyone needs a diaper change.

Everyone is HANGRY.

This is beast mode time.

Like, seriously.

I grab my daughter and run her upstairs. Give her a toy to keep her entertained.

Run back downstairs.

Grab the twins, one in each arm, and run them upstairs.

At this point, the twins are screaming because hello, hangryyyy.

FEED. MEEEE.

Me literally

I hurry and make their bottles, running around like a chicken.

It’s only 10 a.m., and I’m sweating.

The gym didn’t see me coming today lol.

I give the boys their bottles ( thank goodness for the TwinZ pillow), and then I cook up some eggs and toast for my girl. We eat together. Even though half of it ends up on the floor because my toddler is in her “let’s play with our food” era.

It’s 11 a.m. at this point.

Time to get some fresh air.

I grab my daughter, run her downstairs and outside, give her some chalk, and tell her, “Be right back!”

Run back upstairs.

Somehow carry the TwinZ pillow AND my twins downstairs.

Seriously, I’m writing this and thinking, holy shit, how am I doing this?

I thought the twins would enjoy some fresh air.

Ha. Ha.

Nope.

The twins are screaming.

And apparently, the only thing that will settle them is being in the wagon while I push them.

So there I am, walking in circles around the yard for 30 minutes.

Peep the sweat.

At this point it’s getting so hot outside, so back inside we go.

It’s finally nap time. Hooray.

This can either go very smoothly…

or I’m outnumbered and it’s scary.

And well, it was scary today lol.

After 20 minutes of rocking, soothing I finally get the boys settled and asleep. My daughter and I crawl into bed. And we pass out.

The deepest sleep ever.

All four of us slept for THREE HOURS.

It was incredible.

I woke up feeling like a new freaking woman.

The twins kept sleeping, so my daughter and I went upstairs to have lunch.

And then eventually, my husband got off work.

By this point, I needed to get out of the basement.

So we packed up the kids and drove to the park.

There’s a shaded trail, so we walked and collected rocks with my toddler. She was having a blast.

I was still in fight-or-flight mode from the day I had, but I was trying to breathe. Trying to actually be there.

We walked over to this huge grass field where the sprinklers were going.

My husband looked at me and said,

“Let’s run through them.”

I laughed.

“Eh, I’m okay.”

He started running.

And my daughter followed.

They were running in circles, laughing.

Both of them completely soaking wet.

And I just stood there watching them in awe.

The hard day I had been carrying around disappeared.

I stood there watching my husband and my little girl run through a random grass field, barefoot and soaking wet, laughing like this was the best place in the world.

My husband came over and grabbed me.

And it was all three of us. Running through the sprinklers. Barefoot. Soaking wet. Laughing.

And I remember thinking,

I never want this moment to end.

Today was hard. Really hard.

But then we ran through the sprinklers.

And everything was perfect.
